Healthy food in Puerto Vallarta is now easy.
Puerto Vallarta is a culinary mecca. That, can be a problem.
From Michelin-starred to hole-in-the-wall, there is an endless variety of restaurants in Puerto Vallarta to delight our tastebuds. But tasty food is often unhealthy food, and there are few restaurants truly committed to following the Hippocratic philosophy of letting food be the source of good health.
Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, inflammation and most other ailments on the rise are rooted in the foods we eat; highly processed, acid-forming, and preservative-laden foods. Much of what we consume is devoid of nutrients and contains ingredients that deteriorate health.
So, why can’t delicious food be healthy too? Easier said than done, but certainly possible and something we’ve been working on for a while.
Introducing international foodies to delicious, healthy food since 2017.
In 2017, we opened Beyond Yoga Retreat, a place where busy people could escape their hectic lives and regain balance. We take a holistic approach and diet is a big part of how we help our clients restore health. We cater to a discerning clientele, so our menu had to be nutritious, tasty, and gourmet.
For three years we’ve been developing our menu. We’ve earned amazing reviews from our clients, helped them improve their health, and expand their tastebuds. We even hosted a celebrity chef who gave us high praise. Then came the pandemic and we temporarily close our doors.
Sharing healthy food with Puerto Vallarta locals in the era of Covid-19.
When one door closes, another opens. While we trust that Beyond Yoga Retreat will resume operations in the future, temporarily closing created the opportunity to open Freshplate and share our passion for healthy food with our local Puerto Vallarta community at this very important time.
As an essential service, Freshplate is working to reduce virus contagion by encouraging people to stay home with food delivery in Puerto Vallarta, and by making it easy to eat healthy food at a time when good health is so very important. As widely reported, Covid deaths are highest among those over 60 and especially those with weak immune systems and pre-existing conditions. We hope to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
The sowing of seeds that started Freshplate - from the founder
When I was 7 years old, my mom opened a health food store. That was about a year after she became vegetarian. My dad on the other hand, had an upscale restaurant; the kind frequented by famous people. Food was very gourmet and not vegetarian. Both my parents loved to cook and I guess that’s where I gained an appreciation for both, tasty and healthy food.
Freshplate is my 10th business venture. I’ve been busy. Through that busyness, especially when I was single, I would find myself ordering in or getting takeout and calling it a meal. I didn’t have time to cook for myself and look after my health. My wife and I did something similar during quarantine. We got tired of cooking, so we ordered in, and later we paid the price feeling heavy, and lethargic.
This is a symptom of the problem many of us feel: we know what we should be eating to be in good health, but we can’t or we don’t. Covid has complicated many things, how and what we eat among them. I wanted to do something to make the situation better, at least locally. That’s why I started Freshplate.
Everything we prepare is rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains. We elaborate on our experience at Beyond Yoga Retreat, crafting them into delicious meals that are good for you. We vacuum-pack not just because food stays fresh longer, or because it tastes better, but because nutrients stay bio-available longer.
And when you’re in quarantine, wondering what risks you’ll take going grocery shopping, or getting tired of ordering the same delivery; when you’re not eating as well as you should to stay healthy, and be able to fight off an encounter with the virus, our healthy meals are delivered to you, and ready to eat in five minutes.
Thank you for being here. I hope we can make your life a little better.
